Building Facade and External Envelope Surveys

Here at Drone Site Surveys we have seen how the use of drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), has revolutionised the way we conduct building facade and external envelope surveys. We have a whole squadron of drones, equipped with high-resolution and thermal cameras which an easily access and meticulously scan every part of a building’s facade or external envelope. We capture high-quality photographs and videos, providing a complete and detailed view of the building. We even have drones that can create 3D models of the structure for a comprehensive understanding of the building’s condition and allow us to take measurements offsite.

Using drones for façade inspections allows for improved safety, higher quality data collection, reduced disruption, time on site reduced, and comprehensive reporting.

Surveying building facades and external envelopes often involve personnel working at height, which carries its own inherent risks. Drones eliminate this hazard, keeping inspectors safely on the ground while the drone completes the hazardous parts of the survey.

Higher Quality Data: With high-resolution imaging, drones can capture intricate details that might be missed by the human eye. Thermal imaging can identify potential issues like water infiltration, thermal bridging, or insulation gaps, which are not visible in standard visual spectrum images.

Drones can cover large areas swiftly, significantly reducing the time taken for the survey. This rapid collection of data translates to less downtime and lower costs, particularly when compared to traditional methods like scaffolding or rope access which require considerable time for setup and takedown.

Reduced Disruption: Drones operate with minimal intrusion, unlike scaffolding or MEWPs, which can obstruct views and cause inconvenience to occupants. A drone survey can be completed with negligible impact on building occupants or passers-by.

Preventive Maintenance: Regular drone surveys allow for early detection of defects, facilitating preventive maintenance. Addressing issues when they’re small helps avoid more substantial damage down the line, leading to significant cost savings in the long run.
