Drone Bridge Inspections

Bridges over rivers, railways and roads are hard to reach with traditional access. Our CAA approved pilots capture detailed close-up and overview imagery of every part of the structure, including soffits, bearings, parapets and abutments.

Depending on the deliverables, we can often inspect without scaffolding, cherry pickers or road closures. For more detailed surveys, a limited closure may be needed for accuracy and safety.

Alongside imagery, we produce 3D models, point clouds and topographical data using photogrammetry and LiDAR, delivered through our online portals.

Why Clients Choose Drone Bridge Inspections

Drone bridge inspections give engineers the detail they need with far less access. Clients benefit from:

Less access equipmentOften no scaffold, MEWP or under-bridge unit.
Fewer closuresMany inspections need no road closure.
Close-up detailSoffits, bearings and joints in 4K.
3D and point cloudsMeasurable data for engineers.
RepeatableCompare condition over time.
Easy deliveryEverything in an online portal.

Knowing the condition of your whole portfolio lets you mitigate risk, prioritise spending and act on real evidence rather than assumptions.

The result?

Detailed structural imagery and data, captured safely and with minimal disruption to the network.

Digital twins

A dated 3D record of the bridge

A digital twin is an accurate 3D model of the bridge built from drone data. Engineers can inspect it remotely, take measurements and compare it with future surveys.

Repeated surveys show how the structure changes over time, helping you plan maintenance and target physical inspections where they are needed most.

Every face of the structure, recorded.

Why drones

Why use drones for bridge inspections?

Access equipment over water, rail or roads is expensive and often needs closures. A drone reaches every angle of the structure safely, with far less disruption.

Why choose us

Why choose Drone Site Surveys?

Bridge inspections need close-up detail of soffits, bearings, parapets and abutments, without the cost of access equipment over water, rail or roads. Our CAA approved pilots plan every flight around the structure and the network beneath it, so many inspections need no scaffold, MEWP, under-bridge unit or road closure.

Alongside 4K imagery, we produce 3D models, point clouds and topographical data that engineers can measure from their desks and compare with future surveys. Everything is delivered through our secure online portal, ready to share with your engineers.

Clients choose us for bridge inspections because we offer:

Close-up 4K imagery of soffits, bearings, parapets and abutments
Often no scaffold, MEWP or under-bridge unit
Many inspections with no road closure
Overview imagery and video of the whole structure
3D models and point clouds engineers can measure
LiDAR and photogrammetry capture
Digital twins to compare condition over time
Topographical data where you need it
CAA Operational Authorisation 11363 and £10m public liability cover
Everything in one secure online portal
Truly independentWe don’t carry out bridge repairs or maintenance works, and we aren’t tied to any contractor. Our imagery and data show the structure as it is, so your engineers can plan maintenance on the evidence alone.

How it works

Our bridge inspection process

From first enquiry to secure delivery, every survey follows the same six steps, so you always know what happens next and when.

01

Tell us about the property

Tell us about the structure, what it crosses and the outputs you need. We’ll plan the flights and any coordination with the asset owner.

02

Planning and quote

We carry out a desktop assessment of the property and the surrounding airspace, check the survey against current UK drone regulations, and prepare your quote. You receive it by email with no obligation, along with the airspace map for your site and an example delivery so you can see exactly what you’ll be getting.

03

Booking your date

Once you’re happy with the quote we add your job to the schedule and start monitoring the Met Office forecast. In the meantime we prepare the pre-flight paperwork, including our risk assessment and method statement (RAMS), which we can send over for your records. As soon as we have a clear weather window and pilot availability, we confirm your attendance date. You don’t normally need to be on site.

04

The survey

Our CAA approved pilots capture overview and close-up imagery, plus mapping flights for 3D models and point clouds where required.

05

Processing

Imagery, video, 3D models and survey data are processed and delivered through our online portal, with white-label options.

06

Delivery

We email you a link to our secure online portal, where your imagery, reports and any other agreed outputs are ready to view, download and share with your team or contractors. Alongside the deliverables you’ll find a folder containing the pre-flight paperwork, a copy of the drone airspace map for your site and any other relevant documents, so everything from the survey is in one place.
